Malanda Falls

Located directly across the road from the retreat, Malanda Falls is one of the region’s most accessible and beautiful waterfalls. A short rainforest walk leads to viewing platforms where you can enjoy the peaceful surroundings and spot native wildlife.

The nearby Malanda Falls Conservation Park also features picnic areas and a visitor centre.

Millaa Millaa Falls

One of the most photographed waterfalls in Australia, Millaa Millaa Falls cascades into a large natural swimming pool surrounded by rainforest. It’s an easy stop along the famous Waterfall Circuit and a popular place to cool off on warm days.

Zillie Falls

A powerful multi-tiered waterfall surrounded by thick rainforest, Zillie Falls offers dramatic views from the lookout platform. While swimming is not recommended here, the viewing area provides a fantastic perspective of the cascading water.

Ellinjaa Falls

A favourite for photographers and nature lovers, Ellinjaa Falls flows gently over wide rock formations into a peaceful rainforest pool. A short walk leads visitors down to the base of the falls where you can take in the scenery.

Lake Eacham Rainforest Walk

Lake Eacham is a stunning volcanic crater lake surrounded by lush rainforest. The walking track loops around the lake through dense forest and offers excellent opportunities for wildlife spotting.

Visitors can also enjoy swimming in the crystal-clear waters.

Curtain Fig Tree

One of the Atherton Tablelands’ most famous natural attractions, the Curtain Fig Tree is an enormous strangler fig tree with roots cascading down like a curtain. A short boardwalk leads visitors to a viewing platform overlooking this incredible natural wonder.

Mt Hypipamaa Crater

This fascinating volcanic pipe forms a deep crater surrounded by rainforest. The short walking track leads to viewing platforms where you can look down into the dramatic geological formation.

Nearby Dinner Falls also offers a beautiful forest walk.

Lake Barrine Rainforest Walk

Lake Barrine is another beautiful volcanic crater lake surrounded by World Heritage rainforest. A peaceful walking track circles the lake, offering a chance to experience the dense rainforest and spot wildlife along the way.

Visitors can also enjoy boat cruises on the lake or relax at the historic teahouse overlooking the water. The calm setting and towering trees make this one of the most tranquil nature experiences in the Atherton Tablelands.

Waterfall Circuit

A scenic driving route connecting some of the Atherton Tablelands’ most famous waterfalls, including Millaa Millaa Falls, Zillie Falls, and Ellinjaa Falls. The Waterfall Circuit is a must-do for visitors and offers an easy way to experience several spectacular rainforest waterfalls in one trip. Other popular falls in the wider region include Josephine Falls and Nandroya Falls, both well worth visiting while exploring the Tablelands.

Peterson Creek Walk

The Peterson Creek Walk in nearby Yungaburra is a peaceful riverside track well known as one of the best places in the Atherton Tablelands to spot platypus in the wild. The easy walking path follows the creek through lush rainforest and leads to a viewing platform where visitors often see platypus swimming or foraging along the riverbank, particularly in the early morning or late afternoon.

Mamu Tropical Skywalk

The Mamu Tropical Skywalk offers a unique way to experience the rainforest from above. Visitors can walk along elevated boardwalks and a 37-metre observation tower that rises above the rainforest canopy, providing spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and dense tropical forest. The experience offers a different perspective of the World Heritage rainforest and is a memorable stop for nature lovers exploring the region.

Mount Bartle Frere Walk

Mount Bartle Frere is the highest mountain in Queensland and forms part of the spectacular Wooroonooran National Park. The area offers challenging hiking opportunities through dense tropical rainforest, with trails leading toward the summit and surrounding mountain landscapes. While the full climb is suited to experienced hikers, the lower sections provide a beautiful introduction to the rugged rainforest terrain of the region.
